Solvents VS. Solventless

When is comes to understanding concentrates types, it can be helpful to separate them by excraction method: with solvents and solventless.

With Solvents

Extraction method utilizing chemical solvents to extract the desirable compounds such as cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis plant material. Concentrates are created by passing a solvent through cannabis plant material, creating a solution rich in cannabinoids and terpenes that is then purged to remove any remaining solvents left in the solution.

Solventless

Extraction method utilizing mechanical techniques that utilize pressure, tempurature, and filtration to extract the cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis plant material without the use of a chemical solvent.

Cured Vs. Live

Another factor in how we define concentrates is what type of plant material is used as the starting material. “Live” concentrates are made from freshly harvested cannabis plants, whereas “cured” concentrates are made from plants that have undergone the drying and curing process.

Cured Concentrates

Some concentrates are made from cured flower, meaning the flower has been harvested and dried before the extraction process begins. Curing the flower removes the majority of the natural moisture in the plant, giving the plant time to mature and develop potency and flavor. making for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Live Concentrates

Live plants are flash-frozen to best preserve the good stuff – cannabinoids and terpenes. Retaining these compounds allows for the full effect and flavor of the original cultivar to shine through in the concentrate.
